I have also found that when writing substantial content that respectfully references another authority website/blog often leads to a track back and a link to the website also.
Complimenting the blog owner and recognizing good work not only adds value but also really adds to the conversation.

Yep. The number of posts that have obviously not read a thing and just copy and paste all day long. Some paying customer is not getting good bang for their buck...

Well said. The (thousands) of posts I get that say 'nice post' or something equally vacuous just hit the spam bin. Pointless waste of time.

This is good information...I had never considered press releases as a backlinking strategy but it works well. If you happen to get picked up on Google news your golden.

This was a very helpful article on the topic of link building. I am never sure how to approach link building, however, I do like writing for Ezine Articles which is high P.R of 7.. and allows anchor text.

In addition, your article can be picked up by other publishers which creates more backlinks.

Thanks again! awesome post. :)

Jonny,

Well it was a bit of both to be honest :) But it's true! Pausing some of our broader termed ads has saved us so much! Much better to try to get free(ish) marketing on the bigger search terms through working with articles and press releases to get traffic, and pay for the smaller, less expensive adwords (which are more targeted, as I mentioned)!

Thanks for the comment back x
